Longhorn Lions annual peach sale is back!
Our supplier in Fredricksburg gave us the sad news that most of the peach orchards
did not produce peaches this year.
Fortunately, we have another source, who has supplied our club in years past, when
peaches were not available from Central Texas. We've been assured that we'll be
able to supply as many peaches as our supporters want.
Since this is our
club's largest annual fund raiser, we appreciate the support of all who have
purchased peaches from us in the past, and look forward to hearing from you
again this year.
If you haven't purchased peaches from us in the past, but:
-are a fan of peaches
-will be able to pick up peaches around July 11th
-want to support your local Lions Club
...just contact any club member, or
email our Peach Chairman
for more information.
Early Childhood Vision Screenings
As Sight projects are the core of Lionism, our club is exited about our newest
project. In conjunction with the Registered Opticians Association of Texas, our
club is piloting Early Childhood Vision Screenings. Targeted at
infants and toddlers, ages one to five years, the goal is to reduce preventable
blindness, from conditions such as Amblyopia and Strabismus.
Pilot screenings were held in the January of 2009 in Cedar Park, Liberty
Hill, and San Angelo, with extremely positive results. Over 150 children
were screened, and approximately 18% were referred to local optical professionals
with potential problems, most of which can be easily corrected if caught
before the age of five.
Lion District 2S3 has taken up the charge as well, soliciting funds from all
district clubs, for the initial cost of the screening equipment, with full
expectations that this could become an important program for Lions Clubs in
the district, state, and even nationwide.
Our local Early Childhood Vision Screening on Saturday, June 27th, at the Cedar
Park Public Library was a great success. More details to come.
Visit our website for future dates, times, and locations of upcoming screenings.
